It's only my second week of college, and we had a part-time job fair today. I sent out applications at the fair.
One of the employers, a car dealership in a nearby town, already scheduled me for an interview next week after seeing my application. My job would either be in sales or in the service department.
I just thought I would let everyone know this.

Are you into cars at all? A car dealership sounds interesting, but I don't think I could deal with all the people coming in and trying to negotiate a cheaper price. I never understood haggling, especially when actual money is involved. Selling cars seems to be a very delicate, time-consuming process, and I think my lack of social understanding would be a hindrance.
Talk to the career counselor on campus (usually called Placement Services or Career Services), tell him/her about the Asperger. If I find your school on the Internet I will send you more specific info, name and number, but heck, you might do that by the time I do.

Avoid sales and go for service department.
I am still a little nervous, because I am worried that I will have trouble finding another part-time job. And I need to make some more money so I can afford the things I need, and to make people like me.
Tim
I agree - go for the service department rather than sales. Car salesmen have a sometimes deserved reputation for being shysters.
GuessWho, places can TRY and forbid people from having sex but where there's a will there's a way.

There is definitely a need for salespeople who take the softly softly approach. Women I know have said they felt they were talked down to by some salespeople but were impressed with the ones who took the time to explain things to them.
I didn't get the job and I am very upset about it.
Tim
And it wasn't even a sales job. It was data entry.
Tim
Keep at it Tim. You will get there eventually.

I hope so. I can't live entirely off my savings.

Can you get some kind of support to help you find a job? My son got work easily once he had people ready to work with him and help him find a job. He has support in the workplace now.
I'm sure you have a lot to offer - sometimes employers notice difference - and when the don't have an understanding about difference - this can lead to prejudice. I am thinking of my son when I say this. With someone to help him and act as a mediator - this solved the problem
Maybe your local autism support group may be able to give some helpful advice.
My son is a really hard worker and talented in his work - he just needed someone to help an employer to see this.

Agree 100% A good job agency with experience with aspies is an absolute Godsend!
GuessWho, I think in any setting where there are males and females, there will be some nookie. Even more so when they are bored.
