That bums me out.
I don't know either. But I think a lot of it has to do with ignorance... if you don't know anyone with autism and only see this kind of crap- its easy to make choices based off of only what you know.
I don't think you can understand hate. I think you can only try be yourself to the people you know and make small changes that way. Some people just spout out whatever they think is right and don't bother to find out if it really is. I feel sorrier for them than I do us sometimes... meaning that I think its sadder to not know the truth and look like a ridiculous idiot than to be hated. Not that either option is actually okay.
People like Fore Sam hate "low-functioning" autism most of all.
This is because they subscribe to the view that autism takes a would-be normal child away from them and turns that child into a hopeless poop-smearing retard who will never learn how to love. That view of autism was probably perpetuated largely by fund-raisers and quackery-sellers, and possibly just disablists as well (people who are prejudiced and/or discriminatory against disabled people).
Those who buy into that view of autism want autism to go away forever, whether by eugenic abortion or a "cure" that actually works. And they blame whomever they can for "stealing their child from them" - Fore Sam is one of those folks who blames the government.
Fore Sam also happens to hate high and mid-functioning autistics and certain parents of low-functioning autistics who disagree with him, and he tries to expose any outspoken HFAs and MFAs he can as fake autistics if there's the slightest bit of doubt or confusion surrounding them. Perhaps this is because if what they say is true, and many of these poo-smearing autistics become high-functioning on their own, then he will have made a mistake in how he approached his child. And some people have a hard time admitting to making mistakes, especially in the parenting realm or other areas they're heavily identified with.
Unfortunately, sometimes people who lack in social skills come across as insensitive, self absorbed or simply annoying jerks. Also, due their vocabulary and style of speech, people can percieve them as pompous.
I think I sometimes come across as snobby, aloof or abrupt due to my lack of eye contact, avoidance of people and being unable to tell when it's my turn to speak. I can look back at a couple employees we had in the IT department that, in retrospect, may possibly have been on the spectrum. But I still didn't like them because they acted like grumpy arrogant arses.
if anybody comes up to you and tells you there is something weird or stupid about you or even calls you a bitch, does that mean it's true?
NO WAY!
it means they are limited in their own minds to look beyond behavior or looks.
if anybody hates you it tells you somethings about that person instead of thinking it is about you.
But maybe I really am a bitch
But I find a good way to avoid a lot of this, for males at least, is to "walk with rhythm" because it implies confidence for some reason. Just walk with a "light sway."
I am reminded of the scene in the movie Stir Crazy where Richard Pryor tells Gene Wilder how to walk so that other prisoners won't pick on them. "We bad. That's right. We bad uh huh"
I've only felt descriminted against twice in the work place. (School was the usuall jock > nerd (me being this) relationship)
I used to work at a hospital making food trays for patients. Pretty good job, I liked it. Had a system I could follow once I got used to it which I did. However my supervisor would often take a shift before or after my shift. When she would go before me she would not put things into order or restock and make me do it. And when she had the shift after me on other days she would critisize me for not doing the work schedual fast enough. Couple that with a few insults to my character I quit the job out of spite. (after I tried going to her suprvisor, which these issues were not being resolved)
Another one I worked for a temp. employment agency. I got called in to do filework. I started out just moving files from one folder to a better folder. Then got moved to moving folders themselves armfuls at a time. I asked if I could switch places and got told something along the lines of "being weak and not being able to do a man's job". But someone volunteerd to take my place and I could go home since the filing for the day was going smoothly.
So I sign out for the day and leave. I get a call form my boss and she tells me I left without permission. I told her I got permission to leave early. She said The on site boss never gave me permission, I explained what I was told and took that as being able to leave early. (I think I was setup) And was told I was 'fired' from that temp. work by the on sight boss.
Both of these I never told my employers I had asperger's syndrome. Though the traits, I assume, led to both of these happening they way they did.
Havn't been to work since.

That post was hilarious! Best read of the day! And sooo true! Kirby is such a paranoid emo
Kirby: "Nobody UNDERSTAAANDS MEEEEEEEEE!!! Aspies are just FREEAAAAKS!!!!! They aren't REAAALLL autistics!!!!!! Autism is just....er-um....mercury, no, pollution, no- AILIENS STOLE OUR CHILDREN!!!...........I bleed black...."
Sorry if that seemed pretty harsh but that's the impression I get from the guy.
Why do people hate us so much?
Because most "people" are actually subhuman. They have the POTENTIAL to become human, but the majority of them prefer to remain nothing but yammering, chattering, feces-throwing monkeys.
...Gesserit?
Yes, with a lacing of Timothy Leary *waves at reptiles and primates*
As far as I perceive it, the eastern philosophies, especially Buddhism, care about what this is really about here on earth, and how to improve performance. They actually provide a manual, something substantial with a strong connection to reality.
Monotheistic religions on the other hand, like Christianity, Islam or Judaism construct sets of very earthly rules that are designed to establish a hierarchy of power. They claim to be connected to some patriarchal super-being that simultaneously judges each and everyone of us, but does not really care to change its master plan for the prayers of those puny mortals.
Eastern schemes are more about 'how to get things working' and the monotheistic ones are more about 'how can some few control a lot of others, while giving those others a bad feeling for just living'. This statement is not entirely true; It is more true for institutions called Churches than for the Religions itself. But even there: eastern stuff is more like the kernel, western stuff more like clothing.
... maybe, we should start another 'Dispute about religion'-thread. This one was originally about a slightly different topic. But of course, the topics may be related, like "Why do people of some confession tend to hate others, especially minorities?". Change 'confession' with 'wiring' and strip off the voluntariness of choosing a religion.
Indeed. I was practicing the 'say-it-in-your-own-words'-technique

Buddhism, for example, teaches the Eightfold Path of 'Right' livelihood, 'Right' action, 'Right' thought etc. Christianity also offers guidance on how to behave - more rules if you count the ten commandments (any real argument with any of those?), less if you focus on the two commandments of jesus. In fact you'll find all the world's major established religious philosophies revolve around the same kernel (not really a surprise...): "Treat other people as you would like to be treated - and honour the divine". There really isn't that much to choose between them - except that in western countries recent political developments have made it fashionable to denigrate any power-base connected with the outmoded establishment.
Buddhism:
Wisdom
1. Right View
2. Right Intention
Ethical Conduct
3. Right Speech
4. Right Action
5. Right Livelihood
Mental Development
6. Right Effort
7. Right Mindfulness
8. Right Concentration
Huna:
1. IKE (ee-kay) - The world is what you think it is.
2. KALA - There are no limits.
3. MAKIA (mah-kee-ah) - Energy flows where attention goes.
4. MANAWA (man-ah-wah) - Now is the moment of power.
5. ALOHA - To love is to be happy with (someone or something).
6. MANA - All power comes from within.
7. PONO - Effectiveness is the measure of truth.
Those are positive and applicable, nicely shaven by Occam's Razor.
Now the Two Commandments and the Eight Prohibitions:
1. You shall have no other Gods but me.
2. You shall not make for yourself any idol, nor bow down to it or worship it.
3. You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God.
4. You shall remember and keep the Sabbath day holy.
5. Respect your father and mother.
6. You must not kill.
7. You must not commit adultery.
8. You must not steal.
9. You must not give false evidence against your neighbour.
10. You must not be envious of your neighbour's goods. You shall not be envious of his house nor his wife, nor anything that belongs to your neighbour.
See, the problem with that is stated often as "Do not think of a pink giraffe". NLP taken as an attempt to describe observations (not instructions of manipulations) has filled books with it.
So, after reading those ten rules, my imagination was brought to murder, theft, envy and what not, and leaving me behind with an unspoken threat (what if I fail to obey?).
George Carlin made a good point in my eyes as he attempted to reduce this set of ten rather arbitrary rules to two significant ones in a positive way .
And yes, I have seen Zeitgeist and find it almost amusing that some Monotheistic Churches put so much effort on embellishing something that is actually worshiping the sun.
The other thing is that the Eightfold Path and the Huna are directed to a spiritual development and the actions of human beings are a consequence of that. They describe a stance.
In the Christian Teachings, I have problems to find such clear statements directed towards spiritual development. The writings (the Bible for example) is a collection of stories which may imply such a stance. Finding this stance (or maybe Gods will) is subject of the exegesis. This means that Gods will can only be understood by interpretation. This sounds like a contradiction to me (but I do not go for the whole God-stuff at all anyway).
As a safety clause I'd like to cite: De Gustibus Non Disputandum Est.
Unfortunately so... certain individuals like Cleve Blakemore give the entire Aspie community a very bad internet image. For instance: publicly speaking about how he is mentally and physically superior to every being on Earth, and constantly trolling NTs with hollow arguments and ad hominems. He has an amazing vocabulary and can pull from a very large variety of subjects, but he is a racist, self-obsessed, bigoted asshole. After my encounter with that twat at RPGCodex, I can practically understand why some of these people are afraid of Aspies.
Certain individuals like John the Crack Dealer give the entire black community a very bad image. For instance: Publicly dressing in tasteless bling and bragging about how he is sexually superior to every white man on earth, and constantly selling crack cocaine and forcing his girlfriends to turn tricks for him. I can practically understand why some people are afraid of blacks.
Yup, it's just as valid, isn't it?
that de-humanizes them. (next step is not even trying to understand)
When the snarling dog charges me, I don't need to try to "understand", it I NEED TO DEFEND MYSELF! I'll worry about pretty-fairy-tale world things like "understanding" people who want to destroy me once I am safe from them--BY WHATEVER MEANS ARE NECESSARY.
Just got a letter from a former neighbor -whose son is an aspie- a solicitation letter - (last year she and her sons "team ben" raised $13,000 US dollars for autism speaks and this year their goal is $15,000) on one line it said help us raise money for autism speaks who uses the money for "biomedical research " and looking for a "Cure" . can you imagine? - I can't - having my son wear a shirt that basically says "cure me" - i.e stop me from being me, make sure no one ever ends up like me anymore... (her son is a piano playing, alto singing, math genius, no health problems a really nice kid (he's in highschool now)in Texas. anyway. weird.
This makes me wonder if they know exactly what is meant when they say "biomedical research".
