if anybody comes up to you and tells you there is something weird or stupid about you or even calls you a ***, does that mean it's true?

NO WAY!

it means they are limited in their own minds to look beyond behavior or looks.

if anybody hates you it tells you somethings about that person instead of thinking it is about you.

But maybe I really am a *** Cool

"...as a great philosopher once said...You ain't nothing but a hound dog!" - Elvis Presley as he introduced "Hound Dog" at his concerts in the 1950's and 1961.

Why do people hate us so much?
I don't understand Sad

We're different, but its largely because autistic people have a tendency not to conform. Wasn't there this study that shown that people with autism are more likely to be GLBT?

Typical Aspie behaviour is frustrating for most people because :

  • they may think you're crazy (when you have unusual religious, political or philosophical ideas).
  • they may get angry when your priorities are completely oposite to theirs (especially people who depend on you taking care of your priorities).

lucky, you can become friends with those rare "normal people" patient enough to get to know you better and look beyond what they regards as weirdness.

This is a soon to be big problem - ds is religious, yes he is, he does not agree that people should be horrible to each other .  That is not okay with him - G*d forbid that he mentioned G*d or "mercy" or "blasphemy" at school - the head of special services looks at US as his parents as brainwashing holy rollers - I am catholic yes - he is him, ds has way strnger beliefs than me - he didn't learn them from me.  Why should he be looked at like he is crazy becuse he "believes" and he believes that cruelty to others is against humanity! God gives him the right and the strength to stand up for his beliefs. It is a priority!
He CAN refrain almost 90 % of the time from speaking up on another person wronging another - (sometimes there is just one wrong too many) he has worked hard at it - but when he thinks someone is being harmed - he HAS to, from his very moral being - HAS to - intervene.
On a lighter note- he is able to refrain from espousing his political views at a rate of almost 100%.

It's human nature to hate what is different than ourselves.

I disagree entirely with that.  Call me an idealist I guess.  I think what (the rat race and the unnatural pressures are creating) people are evolving towards is against our basic and fundamental make up.
(and ignorance is bliss, I'll likely try to stay thinking this way)

Guess WHo Korrigan, I saw that Nova as well - Did NOT watch the whole thing, cuz I had read about it and couldn't stand to actualy see it with my own eyes.

All religions lead to the same place - no ones invisible G*d is better than anyone elses.
Ok, I think we got the point.  You can stop doing that and wait for replies now.
Well... normally you would type what you want to say in the box before hitting the reply button, and you really shouldn't reply with a quote of what you just said a few minutes ago.  Also, consecutive posts are considered impolite on most forums; though less so here since we're unable to edit our posts.

When the snarling dog charges me, I don't need to try to "understand", it I NEED TO DEFEND MYSELF!  I'll worry about pretty-fairy-tale world things like "understanding" people who want to destroy me once I am safe from them--BY WHATEVER MEANS ARE NECESSARY.

You can't safeguard yourself against a "threat" you know nothing about. Understanding is the first step to a well-organized society. NT people are no more dangerous than autistic people.

I agreee vehemently, understanding...

I also agree strongly with Dogbrain that when something physical is coming at you your instincts NEED TO kick in .  However I think that they will, I tend to think that the limbic system (of at least My aspie son) fight or flight is MUCH stronger than the thinking (think or blink)frontal cortex - as a matter a fact I highly doubt my son will NOT defend himsrlf from physical threat as he is Hyper aware of all threats - real or perceived... I think my young son tneds towards over-protecting - that is why the specifics need to be explained.

Who is this quote from?????

If you add this to the fact that many Aspies went through hell in high school for no other reason but not having the necessary social instincts to survive in that jungle, it's quite easy to start hating NTs and becoming so arrogant that you won't even listen to their arguments. I understand that such individuals might frighten you, but you have to understand that it can take quite an effort not to become like that after you've been treated like s*** for years by shallow and prejudiced NTs. I consider myself a very sociable and mentally stable person, but during my last years in high school I was at the virge of snapping. I don't know what I would have been capable of if I actually had snapped.

I think that whoever that quote was from, I would be very thankful if you would answer the poll question to mainstream or not to mainstream - Your input would be invaluable as -every word you said is or will be applicable to my son - if we as his parents do not intervene appropriately... need input.

Illusion I don;t think that 100 geniuses would be better then 20 morons - I think that the larger the group all the worse.  Group-think is an epedemic.  Just a minor opinion... poorly expressed to be sure.

Thank you for not writing me off...I like you Smile

I think that lumping people into categories based on their skin color, their place of birth, the way their mind functions, is always dangerous.  No one person can fit every mold.  Thank goodness!

Aye, people these days are brought up from the beginning to think in nothing but groups, categories, and generalizations.

Christian/Islam/Jewish/Atheist/Agnostic/Democratic/Republican/Independent/Liberal/Conservative/Smart/Dumb/Sexy/Ugly/White/Black/Asian/Hispanic/Rich/Poor/etc.

No one ever refers to someone as just a person anymore.

can I just type (for fun - only in jest) I am an antidisestablishmentarian non-conformist supposed nuerotypical mother to three nuero-diverse children and atypical tendencies and hope that no one will pick that statement apart?

I don't hate anyone.

Guess who - that was horrible I read that whole thing and was not pleased that I did.

Actually, I was going to let this slide, but it's really getting to me, so I'm not going to bottle it up any more:

I'm really pissed off that I'm the one being accused of judging people, because I described the lunatic fringe Aspie Supremists as "nutters", while said Supremacists are allowed to spew forth all sorts of nonsense and if anyone calls them on it, they're the one that gets attacked.

Ethel, I didn't see it, I sure hope you weren't attacked - I thought I was following the thread closely.  MAybe you  misread and someone was agreeing with you and being sarcastic at the same time.  anyway, if you've no wish to re-hash the offender, I just wanted to say, you are most righteous in your indignation if you were in fact accused of being judgemental. I should say most certainly you aren't!

why is my screen stretched out so that I have to use the arrow to read...........?

I dunno, I'm an aspie and my digestive system works quite admirably.
