That bums me out.

I don't know either. But I think a lot of it has to do with ignorance... if you don't know anyone with autism and only see this kind of crap- its easy to make choices based off of only what you know. Sad

I don't think you can understand hate. I think you can only try be yourself to the people you know and make small changes that way. Some people just spout out whatever they think is right and don't bother to find out if it really is. I feel sorrier for them than I do us sometimes... meaning that I think its sadder to not know the truth and look like a ridiculous idiot than to be hated. Not that either option is actually okay.
Unfortunately, sometimes people who lack in social skills come across as insensitive, self absorbed or simply annoying jerks.  Also, due their vocabulary and style of speech, people can percieve them as pompous.

I think I sometimes come across as snobby, aloof or abrupt due to my lack of eye contact, avoidance of people and being unable to tell when it's my turn to speak.  I can look back at a couple employees we had in the IT department that, in retrospect, may possibly have been on the spectrum.  But I still didn't like them because they acted like grumpy arrogant arses.

if anybody comes up to you and tells you there is something weird or stupid about you or even calls you a ***, does that mean it's true?

NO WAY!

it means they are limited in their own minds to look beyond behavior or looks.

if anybody hates you it tells you somethings about that person instead of thinking it is about you.

But maybe I really am a *** Cool

But I find a good way to avoid a lot of this, for males at least, is to "walk with rhythm" because it implies confidence for some reason.  Just walk with a "light sway."

I am reminded of the scene in the movie Stir Crazy where Richard Pryor tells Gene Wilder how to walk so that other prisoners won't pick on them. "We bad. That's right. We bad uh huh" Big Grin

I've only felt descriminted against twice in the work place. (School was the usuall jock > nerd (me being this) relationship)

I used to work at a hospital making food trays for patients. Pretty good job, I liked it. Had a system I could follow once I got used to it which I did. However my supervisor would often take a shift before or after my shift. When she would go before me she would not put things into order or restock and make me do it. And when she had the shift after me on other days she would critisize me for not doing the work schedual fast enough. Couple that with a few insults to my character I quit the job out of spite. (after I tried going to her suprvisor, which these issues were not being resolved)

Another one I worked for a temp. employment agency. I got called in to do filework. I started out just moving files from one folder to a better folder. Then got moved to moving folders themselves armfuls at a time. I asked if I could switch places and got told something along the lines of "being weak and not being able to do a man's job". But someone volunteerd to take my place and I could go home since the filing for the day was going smoothly.

So I sign out for the day and leave. I get a call form my boss and she tells me I left without permission. I told her I got permission to leave early. She said The on site boss never gave me permission, I explained what I was told and took that as being able to leave early. (I think I was setup) And was told I  was 'fired' from that temp. work by the on sight boss.

Both of these I never told my employers I had asperger's syndrome. Though the traits, I assume, led to both of these happening they way they did.

Havn't been to work since.

In other words, I've said all I'm going to say to Wilky on this thread. She insulted me and continues to refuse to believe that she did and deserved what she got in retaliation. Hence the prime example.

Timelord, I have been trying to just rise above it all and ignore your comments.  However, you just don't stop.  I get so angry every time I get on this board and read your posts.

The manner in which you have treated Wilky is unbelievable! The comments you have made about her on this board, on Joekers blog, and on your own wiki page are extemely offensive.  You still owe Wilky an apology.  I doubt she will ever get one, but would you please stop with the "she got what she deserved."  Have you ever been taught what it is to be a gentleman?

Did it ever occur to you that the reason you are not employable is that you offend everyone? Has it ever occured to you that maybe you should work on that?  I believe that anyone who feels the need to have a list of enemies should probably rethink how they do things.
I hope that I never read "they got what they deserved" from you again.  It is sad that you go through life so full of vengence.

That post was hilarious! Best read of the day! And sooo true! Kirby is such a paranoid emo

Kirby: "Nobody UNDERSTAAANDS MEEEEEEEEE!!! Aspies are just FREEAAAAKS!!!!! They aren't REAAALLL autistics!!!!!! Autism is just....er-um....mercury, no, pollution, no- AILIENS STOLE OUR CHILDREN!!!...........I bleed black...."

Sorry if that seemed pretty harsh but that's the impression I get from the guy.
so.. I take this as a NO, you won't stop?

Because most "people" are actually subhuman.  They have the POTENTIAL to become human, but the majority of them prefer to remain nothing but yammering, chattering, feces-throwing monkeys.

Unfortunately so... certain individuals like Cleve Blakemore give the entire Aspie community a very bad internet image. For instance: publicly speaking about how he is mentally and physically superior to every being on Earth, and constantly trolling NTs with hollow arguments and ad hominems. He has an amazing vocabulary and can pull from a very large variety of subjects, but he is a racist, self-obsessed, bigoted ****. After my encounter with that **** at RPGCodex, I can practically understand why some of these people are afraid of Aspies.

Certain individuals like John the Crack Dealer give the entire black community a very bad image.  For instance:  Publicly dressing in tasteless bling and bragging about how he is sexually superior to every white man on earth, and constantly selling crack cocaine and forcing his girlfriends to turn tricks for him.  I can practically understand why some people are afraid of blacks.

Yup, it's just as valid, isn't it?

that de-humanizes them. (next step is not even trying to understand)

When the snarling dog charges me, I don't need to try to "understand", it I NEED TO DEFEND MYSELF!  I'll worry about pretty-fairy-tale world things like "understanding" people who want to destroy me once I am safe from them--BY WHATEVER MEANS ARE NECESSARY.

Just got a letter from a former neighbor -whose son is an aspie- a solicitation letter - (last year she and her sons "team ben" raised $13,000 US dollars for autism speaks and this year their goal is $15,000) on one line it said help us raise money for autism speaks who uses the money for "biomedical research " and looking for a "Cure" .  can you imagine? - I can't - having my son wear a shirt that basically says "cure me" - i.e stop me from being me, make sure no one ever ends up like me anymore... (her son is a piano playing, alto singing, math genius, no health problems a really nice kid (he's in highschool now)in Texas.  anyway. weird.

This makes me wonder if they know exactly what is meant when they say "biomedical research".

The winners won't be the families that climb to the top of the "social tree".  They all eventually die off, breeding less and less with each generation.  It's the "bottom" that shows the most evolutionary success, spreading genetic material far and wide--certainly blowing all their "superiors" out of the water.

People will always fear what they do not understand, for what they do not understand, they cannot control...

People also fear what they understand, because understanding reveals that there actually is no such thing as control.

Do you actually know what an automobile is?  Think about the thousands of pounds of screaming metal hurtling down barely-maintained roads, most of them operated by people who have had, at most, a few weeks' formal training and nearly none of whom have had any refresher training administered by experts.  They operate these death machines while simultaneously eating, listening to music, having conversations on telephones, and putting on makeup.  The vast majority of these roaring engines of destruction contain tanks full of explosives.  People don't want to understand that.
