infinite sense... and I thought your last statement was even quite insightful.  Mom

Nothing is real…All is illusion. A dance of light; a whirl of smoke and mirrors. That which we see around us is but a temporary incarnation of the infinite.

Reality is what you believe it to be; fantasy isn’t what to believe it to be. The two are one--and all is mystery.

Confused?
I know I am.
I find real life quite stressful, so in my relaxation time I have always had a preference for fantasy - I read huge numbers of books and nearly all of them are fiction - but EMPHATICALLY NOT the stuff that most NT women my age (almost 50) can be seen to be reading (you know, 'problems' of rich handsome boy + rich beautiful girl in huge LA mansion Tongue). More Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, Eoin Colfer etc.

Isn't all fiction really fantasy, anyway? At least MY preferred reading doesn't PRETEND to be an account of real life - no wonder people who read such things think that their favourite characters are real - THEY are the ones with a warped view of reality, not us.

My kids and grandkids (and their friends) think I'm cool for having all the Pokémon games - some of their friends like to trade Pokémon with me as I am so good at collecting them!
I have Pearl. Which do you have? Do you trade on the GTS? When I go back to work I will save up for Diamond (my twins each have Diamond). My Pokédex is up to 488 seen and owned. Just trying to find the two last, very rare, items to fill my Pokédex (except for the 'event Pokémon' - I doubt I'll ever see a Pokémon event in my neck of the woods!).

Thanks for the 'high five'! Big Grin
I finally got the last two - thanks to my son getting the items for me - so I have filled my Pokédex.

I will pm you my friend code as soon as I find out what it is!
Surely all fantasy stems from reality?

You've heard me on about FF7 and that, Shinra et al...it's all based on very possible concepts.

just in a "fantastic" setting.

Yeah, I know. Fiction is so much more interesting... even true-to-life fiction, if it's actually true-to-life and not dumb stereotypes...

Sorry if I'm being a pain, though, but I... still don't get what that has to do with political correctness. ^____^'''

It's political correctness that's causing the problem. When you try to please everyone, anything from the fantasy world that flies in the face of reality or "offends" along similar line is instantly regulated or removed. For example - homophobes demanded that the fact that Noddy and Big Ears shared a bed made the Noddy books inappropriate for children.

Sorry if this isn't helping you. It's hard for me to explain something that to me is so glaringly obvious.

Yes, and it was considered a bit kinky that PC Plod used to spank Noddy with a slipper when he was naughty so that had to go. And it wasn't considered PC for Golliwogs to be getting into trouble all the time because that was disrespectful of black people.

So that means if you want to see Noddy books that aren't Bowdlerised, you have to get the really old ones from op shops or garage sales or antique shops. I used to love my Noddy books and don't think reading them made me homophobic or racist or so on.

I even think Sesame street has gone off the idea of Bert and Ernie sharing a room because some could think it meant that they were gay. Btw, I suspect Bert could be a bit aspie as he perseverates over pigeons. I'm sure he would have enjoyed the song "I like Birds" by the Eels.

Cookie Monster isn't munching cookies greedily now because some fool thought that meant he was encouraging kids to overeat and get obese.

I could go on but think the picture is very clear already.

Yes. Then there was that lot who said that fast food restaurants shouldn't put little toys in kiddie packs because that would make the children get obese. This claptrap about an "obesity epidemic" really annoys me and so does similar guff about an "autism epidemic" If there is an "epidemic" in the modern world, it is either a "sensationalism epidemic" or a "stupidity epidemic".
Not necessarily - manufacturers now are most likely better aware that big people have dollars to spend on their products and they better make their goods a bit stronger. There's no need to inject people in their bum cheek if they have a perfectly good arm to insert the needle into instead.

One thing I will agree on though: there seems to be a real epidemic of fat-headedness and woolly-mindedness in modern society and I blame much of this on the sensationalist mass media.
Fair enough. I was trying to say that there actually isn't an epidemic of obesity or of autism, despite all the sensationalist reports about both these things. All that has happened is the determining criteria for both have been broadened.
I'd say obesity is contagious, Pringles..once you pop you can't stop.

Thank god I don't lead a sedentry lifestyle, that's all I'm gonna say.
Well, I certainly think that obesity is something to be concerned about but not to be paranoid about. Plus, it annoys me when the food police try to make us feel guilty for having cakes and pies and chips sometimes.
Bah, I eat ALL the WRONG foods, Tenacious and I'm fit as a butchers dog Tongue Smile
See? That's exactly what I'm getting at. Sure, there are health issues associated with extreme obesity, such as joint problems, heart problems, and high blood pressure; but being a couple of kilos overweight never hurt anybody.
I'm not even overweight, it's weird..

I just burn it off Tongue
