I hope I posted this in the right forum...

ANYWAY - well, my longest-time special interest would have to be Pokemon. When I was little I talked about it constantly. Now that I'm older I've learned to bridle my thoughts if I expect to survive in a predominately-NT school, but I still do talk about it quite a bit. And time and time again, I've gotten the comments "You need to learn about the difference between fantasy and reality!"

A little earlier today I saw a video on YouTube. This is it:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=HKkJKToWsEQ

I couldn't believe it used the idea of real-life people in the exact same context as characters portrayed by those real-life people. It's like people think if the characters get together, the actors belong together or something like that! Of course, THAT'S a perfectly normal, healthy teenage interest, isn't it? Because EVERYONE likes to pair up actors based on the characters they portray. (Like it's even their business in the first place....)

Seriously, would someone please define "real" to me? Actually, I have no problem distinguishing between fantasy and reality. I just choose to spend more time in my fantasy worlds, because they are typically far more interesting than the real one. I *know* the difference between reality and fantasy, I just don't *care*. (Most) NT's claim to care... but they really don't know.

Hope this made sense... ^___^''
It made sense to me. Particularly that last sentence. The trouble is NT's nowadays (most) is that there's something wrong with fantasy. I mean you only have to look at some of the ridiculous acts of "political correctness" aimed at things like Harry Potter for example. I think it's that "political correctness" that's blurring the lines between fantasy and reality to the point that fantasy is almost taboo. It's probably why TV networks go for these "reality" TV shows (what garbage!)

Maybe that's why you are having trouble defining "real" - and I don't blame you! Make fantasy acceptable! It'll improve what's on TV for a start! What wrong with having an imagination? Some NT's will have you think it's a crime!
Yeah, reality TV is so boring... my mom always watches "What Not to Wear". I can't even stand to watch five consecutive minutes of it... >_<

I agree that many NT's seem to dislike the idea of imagination, except in those who are professional at it. My first grade teacher wouldn't let me color alligators neon yellow. What did she think was the problem with that? I'd go all my life thinking real alligators weren't green? My inaccurate portrayal would disrupt the natural balance of the universe? Isn't art supposed to be about creativity?

Timelord - what do you mean about political correctness?

Quickduck - Ha ha. Maybe NT's do have it right then. Have you ever heard the song "You're Still Here"? One line goes, "And I woke up wondering what's real - is it what we see and touch, or what we feel?"

Tigger_the_wind - Yeah... but it's not just women your age. Ever seen Hannah Montana? I watch it as a form of compromise with my NT friend - she'll tolerate my Pokemon if I watch her Hannah Montana. But it's the same kind of thing. So-called problems of rich, famous celebrity... that are mostly her fault in the first place, except it's portrayed as some "tragic" coincidence.

And... POKEMON! *high five* You have Diamond or Pearl?
Political correctness is an excuse given to explain trying to make everyone happy. It's a result of the smallest issue with a small number of people over something trivial. For example - someone over reacting to the word "black" because of racism (there was a fake story circulating awhile ago saying that the nursery rhyme Ba Ba Black Sheep had to change). That's political correctness. It has a major effect on fantasy.

That's why TV networks play it safe and go reality instead. Idiots!
I know what it is, but I was wondering what you meant about TV networks overdoing it. I don't watch much TV, so I was just curious...

I have Pearl. Which do you have? Do you trade on the GTS? When I go back to work I will save up for Diamond (my twins each have Diamond). My Pokédex is up to 488 seen and owned. Just trying to find the two last, very rare, items to fill my Pokédex (except for the 'event Pokémon' - I doubt I'll ever see a Pokémon event in my neck of the woods!).

Thanks for the 'high five'! Big Grin

I have Pearl. Wanna exchange friend codes? I don't use the GTS, I'm too afraid of getting hacks...

O____0 That is an awesome PokeDex. Mine sucks... >_< I've been to... four Pokemon events, but I forgot my cartridge at Pokemon Rocks San Jose, two didn't give anything out (Pokemon Fun Day at Toys R Us and the GameStop tournament a few weeks ago)... so the only limited edition Pokemon I have is a Celebi from JAA last year.

Oh - I meant that there isn't anywhere near as much fictional material on TV nowadays. It's all news, currents affairs and reality TV shows - with just the odd fictional show (and even then most of them are "true to life") to fill things in.

Bring back the old shows that took us into another realm - like Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie, and what about Doctor Who (there's an exception to the rule!). I could go on for ages!

Yeah, I know. Fiction is so much more interesting... even true-to-life fiction, if it's actually true-to-life and not dumb stereotypes...

Sorry if I'm being a pain, though, but I... still don't get what that has to do with political correctness. ^____^'''

I finally got the last two - thanks to my son getting the items for me - so I have filled my Pokédex.

I will pm you my friend code as soon as I find out what it is!

Wow... that's amazing.

Do you know how to get it?

I think that reality is different for everyone due to the fact that we all think differently. Nobodys brain is wired up the same way and that affects how we perceive the world. some peoples brains have cross wiring, and that can cause them to smell colour and see sound (or so my mum told meBig Grin).

P.s. i'm tigger_the _wing's son and the items were electrizer and magmarizerTongue.
Good point.

Welcome to the boards BTW. I love Sonic, too. Big Grin

It's political correctness that's causing the problem. When you try to please everyone, anything from the fantasy world that flies in the face of reality or "offends" along similar line is instantly regulated or removed. For example - homophobes demanded that the fact that Noddy and Big Ears shared a bed made the Noddy books inappropriate for children.

Sorry if this isn't helping you. It's hard for me to explain something that to me is so glaringly obvious.

Oh, I think I know what you mean now.
They have longer needles now to inject people in the butt (when a doctor has to), because we are getting heavier.  That and seat belt extenders (I am surprised, I am 300 and I don't need one, though maybe the seat belt was designed for a male driver, and men store fat in different places than women).  Heavier camping chairs and so on.

Well, I certainly think that obesity is something to be concerned about but not to be paranoid about. Plus, it annoys me when the food police try to make us feel guilty for having cakes and pies and chips sometimes.

And I'm sure the police you refer to are harder on the ladies, because they expect women to look pretty for them.  That is arrogance.

Men who don't like heavy women would do better to simply ignore them, like the women who may not like heavy men.  But I don't suppose a lot of boys learn to keep some feelings to themselves, do they?

WTOP (103.5 FM, although most of you reading this would have to be content with streaming audio on http://www.wtopnews.com) radio an hour ago, I slept late, was in the shower listening to a waterproof battery-powered AM-FM "shower radio".

Twix is becoming a cereal?  And Snickers is a cookie?

Are you having sin for breakfast?

I'm glad I grew up when the best cereal we had was cocoa this and fruit flavored that.
