Read throgh that. The idea behind it really clever, but it has sown me something really bad. The bit I am interested in is this bit:
Some acted selflessly, rushing to the aid of other characters even though that meant they risked infection themselves.
Others fled infected cities in an attempt to save themselves.
And some who were sick made it their mission to deliberately infect others.
This is giving scientists a general idea of what would happen if there was a deadly disease in the real world. Some would help infected people, and these people would be the nice people of the world. Some ran fromm the infection, and might have carried the infection to other areas. This bit is understandable, its basic fear. The funny bit is those that tried to infect others. If this had been real life, the quaranitine measures would have stopped people trying to infect others. As it was, the infection killed off thousands of characters, and the people that tried to spread it probably caused the most mayhem.
I know this was only a game, but it shows everyone how bad some humans can be. Going out of your way to infect more innocent people? Thats just a tad spiteful. What do you all think?

This has already happened with Typhoid ( Typhoid Mary ) & with some Aids victims.
A Very Very sick thing to do to some poor innocent person !!

Actually, Typhoid Mary did not know she was carrying the illness, as she showed no symptoms herself. That particular one was not spiteful.
The "infecting others" would probably be pretty rare in real life if you think about it. Most of the people in the game who did that were probably thinking "HAHA! you're gonna have a game over too!" or something like that, and doing it just for laughs. I probably would've too cause it sounds funny. But in real life Im sure most people wouldn't do such a thing, but then again the world is full of sick f***s so you never know.
I agree that the way people act in a game is different than the way people act in reality. I don't think nearly even on percent of the people who would want to get people infected in a game, would try to get people infected in real life.
I was there during that time, I helped spread that ingame virus. In fact, my guild was probably one of the first to figure it out (someone teleported with it by accident, trying to avoid an inevitable death). The penalty for death in WoW is pretty insignificant, spreading it around just for laughs was the fun of it. The people who didnt want to participate could just hop on a grypon and fly off to another town (sometimes unknowningly spreading it themselves

)
WoW is a pretty unexciting game when you have nothing at the time to do, things like a spreading plague make it more exciting. I wish blizzard sanctioned events like that.

As far as I recall ( & this is from memory, so forgive me if I'm not altogether correct ), initially she didn't know, then they traced several outbreaks to her.
She was told not to work with food, but continued to do so, so had to be removed to a place of safety where she couldn't infect others'.

Yes, she didn't beleive them, it's well documented. She thought it was impossible to carry a disease without ever having shown any symptoms of it. Besides which, she needed to keep working so she would still have money to live on. The whole thing was a bit of a mess.
lol, impossible to carry a disease with no symptons? lol, I can think of a dozen diseases which either have syptoms that occur very late, or not at all. Some diseases, such as HIV, cancers, huntindons etc can lie dormant for years before popping up.
But "Typhoid Mary" was born a quite some time ago, when (I'm assuming) that wasn't quite so well known to the general population...
This year we had a scandal in our country. Two men, working in the healt sector, really liked by the ppl they worked with. They infected people on purpose with HIV in their private time. Drugging ppl and injecting them with contaminated blood. It does happen, not only in fantasy. There are ppl who think they can act in real life like that.
Its rape and abuse on another level.

I agree, but would say that it would be more like murder / manslaughter.
You're absolutely right. Just for fun/lust
Yeah, of course it happens in real life sometimes. But saying that people who would do that in a video game would do that in real life... that's like saying people who like to play practical jokes would go find people and torture and kill them.
Well the scientists are looking at it as what could happen in a pandemic. The people in the game acted with genuine fear. Although some of the people spreading the virus were only kidding, some of those would have been going with the thought "since I am infected, I am going to infect everyone else".
