I work for Objective Productions, a TV production company.  We are in the early stages of discussing a documentary idea with Channel 4 which I would very much appreciate advice on from members of the forum.

In brief, the idea would be to help change - in a small way - perceptions of auties & aspies in the workplace.  One statistic I read quoted in a newspaper recently was that only 6% of auties & aspies are in full-time employment.  I don’t know how accurate that is.

Specifically, the idea is to assemble a team of people who have particular skills as a byproduct of their autism. They would then advise businesses with specific problems to solve.  For example, making a factory assembly line more efficient or helping an architect design a kitchen to be as ergonomic as possible.

What I would appreciate advice with is three things:
1.  Is the idea is workable?  In other words are there enough workplace related issues that aspies & auties would be better at solving than most NTs?
2.  What kind of workplace problems would these be, in your experience?
3.  In general, would this idea be the kind of thing that you personally would find helpful to the aims of the AFF, or do you think it is not a good idea?

I’d like to develop the idea to be as positive & helpful as possible to those people we feature – not patronizing.  I'd also like to take account of the particular needs of auties & aspies (for example, I wouldn’t have known before doing a little research that fluorescent lighting can cause problems for some autistic people).

I hope that this is the rifght section of the forum to mention this.
I think this is a great idea.

It is true that many on the spectrum are unemployed, and I would say that is because many don't get the right opportunities.
