One of my best friends is a manager at Games Workshop in Texas. One of his responsibilities is to teach his employees how to approach customers and how to read their body language and create 'sales talk' - rather than 'small talk'. He said the company relies on the personalities of the people working to move product and that not all employees have this ability naturally so they have some training course they put them through. They are given situations to practice role playing and most people really improve.
I want to take something like that! *L* Would anyone else like such a course to teach them about the basics, not about selling, but just about social interaction?
In my 20s I took (and then taught!) courses in "basic listening skills"--not aimed at any specific purpose except for peer counseling. That is, aimed at how to really listen to and pay attention to somebody else without interjecting one's own stories and advice. It's proven useful for social interaction. (Now, if I would just remember to apply it more often.......)

Ugh! Those kinds of jobs would be the absolute pits! (in my personal opinion at least).
Body Language Course. I fake it pretty well but this is one thing I have little understand or aptitude at learning. Put me down for an "F-". lol
I'm too tired to fake it for long. I will make more of an effort if I like the people and in fact, if I really like them, I don't have to fake it.
i'm going on a course in feb on interview and communication skills. My school gave us a list of courses to help us in our future careers and told us to sign up for one. its £60 which is annoying (around $120)

I think it's pretty obvious.... he hates having AS... and lets face it many people with AS hate having to struggle constantly with social interaction because they want the same things many NT's (and most humans) want -- good healthy relationships, be able to secure good job, have the option of having a family, etc.
Not all people with AS have the same level of functionality in terms of jobs and social skills as many of the people here don't forget. Many guys with AS live with their folks into their late 20's and early 30's, and some even into their 40's. I went to an AS conference and there was a story about a man who had never left his room for many years and his mother was getting too old to care for him and the man was 40 years old, and he was poor and they were trying to find a place for him to live.
Was he fairly low functioning?
