It's one of my favourite songs. Johnny Cash is one of my favourite musicians & this song always reminds me of when my brother before he died. He always used to play this song on his guitar & his voice sounded exactly like Johnny Cash's. Yup! It's one of the sickest songs ever! Anyone else like the song? Geez I'm singing it right now,

"I fell in to a burnin' ring of fire! I went down, down, down as the flames went higher!"
Love it. Did you see the movie? The singing wasn't as good as Johnny, but great story.

His last three CD's were amazing. One of the few artists who maintained his greatness to the very end.
I love this song as with most other Johnny Cash songs.  It sounds really with the Mariachi trumpets with it.
It was my favourite until I saw the video of his last song "Pain" (I think was the title?)......that was so powerful and raw, it just blew me away.

You might mean "Hurt" from the American IV: The Man Comes Around. Brilliant. Widely considered his best late work.

Yup that was the one !
genghis45, if you haven't heard the American IV: The Man Comes Around CD, check it out!

I loved the movie and this songs - modern sound production makes it sound so much better.

I'd heard the song Hurt somewhere and I just had to have that CD. GOOSEBUMPS!!! OH DADDY-O, that's a Darn (a nice cuss word) good song!

I like Johnny Cash songs too. One of my favourites is "The Baron" but be warned, it is a little bit of a tearjerker - but still a very good song. I read somewhere that the Preparation H people wanted to use "Ring of Fire" for one of their advertisements but the Cash family told them no as it would be disrespectful to the memory of the man.

You kidding?

Anything by The Man In Black is gold! I especially like his Gospel anthem, "God's Gonna Cut You Down." Recently someone revisited this tune and put together a vid that was absolutely ill. Featuring all of today's A-List celebs. Bono, Keith Richards, Johnny Depp, Gary Busey, etc.

I'm sure Gary Busey would be flattered to hear anyone call him "a-list" but I know what you mean. Johnny Cash is in a category with few others (Ray Charles comes to mind) who are revered by virtually every artist who has come after him. REVERED, damn it! Big Grin

Yeah, those things where big artists get together and do versions of old classics can easily result in versions that are overblown and not in keeping with the original intent of the song. There are also some dire examples of songs made for events such as Famine Aid eg. "Do They Know It's Christmas" and "That's What Friends Are For".
Ever since I saw Walk the Line on cable, Ring of Fire has grown on me.

I don't like the song "Ring of Fire".  It makes me think of a really bad case of diarrhea after eating some very hot spicy Indian food.  ....."that burning ring of fire".
I have a nice collection of Johnny Cash...I love Ring of Fire & I walk the line a lot.Cool

I like Hank Marvin too.
