I don't know why it took me so long, but I finally read the now-classic article from Wired magazine called "The Geek Syndrome."  On page 6 of 10 there is a quote from Dr. Asperger himself, describing one of the four boys he studied:

"And a fourth, wrote Asperger, 'came to be preoccupied with fantastic inventions, such as spaceships and the like.'  Here he added, 'one observes how remote from reality autistic interests really are' - a comment he qualified years later, when spaceships were no longer remote or fantastic, by joking that the inventors of spaceships might themselves be autistic."

Hmmmm.  Ya think???  But yes, definitely, let's cure this terrible disease and wipe them off the face of the earth.

Cool.  Right now I'd REALLY like to leave the planet.  Talk about WRONG planet.  This morning my husband asked me if I wanted him to get off of the Internet (so I could get on) and I said "I want you to get off of the PLANET."
Hope everyone else is having a good day!!
Hey! I had a day like that last week!  Good Luck!

Somtimes its good to be "remote from reality"

{disengages from reality...}
That would hurt a little if my wife told me that.  But I guess I would know her well enough that deep down inside, our relationship is not based on feelings, that blow like the wind, but on something more.

Excellent point.

This reminds me of the huge effort in recent years to throw all the gay people out of the military. So many of the gays dismissed were language experts that the military was left to train Iraqi troops with no way to talk to them.

But the important thing, of course, is to appease the bigots by getting rid of those people.

Thanks for the kind words, sarahjoke.  I hope your bad day was less bad than mine!

Max, that falls into the category of UNBELIEVABLE!!!! (which shows my naievete!)  No, I believe you, but GEEZ.  Homophobia tied to the debacle in Iraq?  Makes one desperate to believe in a hell, or at least a purgatory, for these people to pay for their sins.

Since you are a Christian, and my husband is not, I'm SURE you would never leave P*RN on your computer desktop for your four year old daughter to find.  And then fail to apologize and/or rectify the situation.  THAT is what prompted my very, very, very mean comment to him.  I am not a mean person.  But a mama lion will do whatever is necessary to defend her baby, and so will I.
