I hasten to add, I hope I never have to turn down another otherwise promising non-Christian, because I am not sure I will do it again.
There are those preachers who say, well, Sarah suggested Abraham knock up her handmaiden Hagar and beget Ishmael, because Sarah had no hope for her own offspring (and laughed at God), and well, look at who is still fighting whom in the Middle East over Abraham's land.
I wonder if God wants us to make a mistake, such as Sarah and Hagar.
Genesis does not recall how long Sarah believed in God before bringing up the Hagar idea.
