Thomas wasn't around on the TV when I was growing up, but had he been, I'm sure I would have liked him. It's silly to not tell parents of the autism if the professionals are sure that's what the child has.

oh no!
my children like thomas... oh the shame!!
{very thick sarcasm}
I love that. Neither or my daughters have been labeled with anything. But when my 3YO tested low in "problem solving" our pediatrician sat down and lowered her voice. Gave me the "talk" and said we should schedule an appointment for six months to "monitor her progress" I'm quivering in my boots...
Doctors/medical pros and their perpetuating myths...

My father used to read the stories to his baby brother (their mother had died) and carried on the tradition with us.
I loved the stories, the feel of the books and the wonderful illustrations.
Unfortunately, the series was re-published with modified artwork because they pictures were, apparently, 'too dark' (in an emotional, not colour, sense) for small kids.
However, I still told them to my children and grandsons.
Then came the tv series with its (to me) highly irritating theme tune.
And then the metal train set.
And the wooden one.
Books, videos/DVDs, trainsets, stickers, clothing, bedding, BEDS.....
With so many collectables is it any wonder spectrum people love them? i wouldn't mind a full set myself, but I'm not a millionaire!

Thomas the Tank Engine is sexist. There were only two female characters in the original series and they were the coaches, so they were entirely subservient to the male characters. I gather a female engine, Emily, has belatedly been introduced but gender parity's still some way off.

Indeed, we should have a toast to our mutual genius and hyper rationality! *cheers*

LOL... give me a break, your mind and life experiences is totally biasing your perspective.... the power of the wordsmiths and rhetoriticians is ASTOUNDING!
I really doubt who-ever wrote thomas was sexist AT ALL, that was never even on their minds. It's a kids show ffs, are you keeping score in the "Gender wars"?
Man it's opinions like these that make me want to nuke the world and humanity... for this level of childishness.. lol.

How exactly is having the Male Engines pull them subserviant?

I really don't know apart from it not being "politically correct". But the stories were of their time and I don't think there was any intention to be sexist.

Well, as long as he keeps standing behind it and doesn't push it, I think we're safe enough.

And Sailor Moon is sexist because boys can't be guardians.

I've always thought the word "Mailman" was offensive - it should be "Personperson"...
