Hey...
I just now caught a teaser for The Oprah. Today's show will be on living with Autism. I'll be at the Dr. all day (broke my finger!) so if anyone here in the US catches this, It'd be great to summarize it here for everyone.
For those overseas, The Oprah is a cult who's followers (usually housewives and the gay) hang on her every word. On the rare occasion that she address real social issues, she does a great job! Normally though, it's just fluff and celebrity nonsense! SHe also has the distinction of being one of the richest media moguls in the US.
nope, it was "On a new Oprah..."
my expectations are zero, but we'll see. Hopefully it'll be on in the waiting room.
Excellent question, WantonSword!
Here's what I have noticed:
Anything on Fox news appeals to the rich and/or ignorant
Soaps appeal to ppl stuck at home durin gthe da, eg house wives/husbands.
But for talk shows:
Ever since Ricki Lake lowered the bar and Jenny Jones limbo'ed under it, it's like the shows target women, which is fine. (repeat after me, "I am NOT the target demographic!") It's the 'feel good' day time crap, like The Oprah that aims for very specific audiences, such as the gays and bored housewives!
sorry, but without an EDIT feature, my last post might be a bit unreadable.
To clarify:
Soaps appeal to ppl stuck at home during the day, eg house wives/husbands
...................PEOPLE...................................FOR EXAMPLE HOUSEWIVES AND HOUSE HUSBANDS.
What the f* are you talking about "the gays"?
You should see how "the gays" trash Oprah on our message boards.
Can we keep AFF free of ignorant stereotypes?
I'm sorry for those of you out there that have made this lifestyle choice. My intention was not to insult or stereotype all of you to be Oprah watching people.
Also, i'd like apologize to any house husbands or house wives, I didn't mean to offend you as well.
Anyone catch the Oprah show that I originally strated this thread to enquire about?
I'm sorry for those of you out there that have made this lifestyle choice.
Um, being gay is no more a choice than being autistic is.
Take that sentence, and read it again in relevance to black skin.
Realise why it doesn't quite work?
As a housewife who cannot work because I do not trust anyone to babysit my 7 year old aspie I came on this website to find some insight on how you feel not to be badmouthed for doing what I feel is right for my son. I am frankly a little offended. I saw the oprah show also looking for insight on aspies and was also dissappointed that they did'nt mention high funtioning issues. If you have any advice that doctors arent talking about please help. My son is newly diagnosed and I honestly have no idea where to go from here. I love him dearly and only want to help not make things worse. As people who feel the same things he feels can you help at all?
